There seems to be 2 ways shown to configure a pvc

--------------The first method--------------

Interface ATM 0/0/0

IP address 1.1.1.1 255.0.0.0
 pvc test-name 0/31
 protocol ip 1.1.1.2 broadcast
 exit

pvc 0/32
 protocol ip 1.1.1.3 broadcast

-------------The second method------------------
INterface ATM0/0/0
ip address 2.2.2.2 255.0.0.0
map-group ccie
atm pvc 1 0 5 qsaal
atm pvc 2 0 16 ilmi
atm pvc 3 1 100 aal5snap

map-list ccie
 ip 2.2.2.1 atm-vc 3 broadcast

Is one method older and there for compatibility ? It seems to me that both
do the same function. Do both work with other layer3 protocols ? (IPX, AT,
DEC)

Thanks for any insight you may offer
