Thanks everybody, AGS+ routes again!!
Indeed there was more than one problem. Sorry for the long note, but you
can learn from it (and maybe laugh with/at me). First, I only have DTE
cables (DB-26 DTE crossover to DB-60 DCE), so the DCE cable several folks
recommended was not an option. So thanks to the tip about the jumpers on
the AGS+, I researched and found the jumper settings on the CD-ROM (thank
you all for NOT giving the data or URL, it was an excellent exercise to look
something up I really needed -- all CCIE candidates need to do this!!).
Armed with these settings, I ventured into the realm of the AGS+ and reset
all jumpers to DTE . I still had the same situation (lights on, lights off,
no packets getting through), and by the end of last night I was ready to
drive over the serial board with my Mustang. Well, clear-headed under
pressure thinking is the key to being a CCIE, right? Did I say I was beyond
words with disgust at this board yet? Tonight I opened up the AGS+ again,
and stared at the board in wonder -- how DOES this thing work anyway? I put
it together again, and started up with a real Cisco DTE->v.35 cable and a
CSU/DSU -- I was getting serious now. I had suspected bad cables (as well
as user error) so this real Cisco cable would help me identify that. When
this connected to another CSU/DSU remained down/down, I looked at the back
of the AGS+ to see lights oddly flickering on S2 (I was on S0). Well, could
it be that the applique was mis-numbered?? Say it isn't possible! Well, it
is, and it was. Sure enough when I configured S0 and plugged in to S2
voila'!! After re-checking, the two big fat cables from the applique to the
board are reversed, I corrected that and routing is happening again with the
AGS+. Whew!! I would be willing to bet that this was something the CCIE
candidates ran into in the AGS+ days... Thanks again everybody!!

Subject: AGS+ to 2500 X-Over
Hi all!
I hope this is an easy one, but it's driving me nuts. I have the following:
2513 Serial 1 Serial 0 AGS+
(R3) <--[DCE] crossover cable [DTE]--> (R4)
During the AGS+ bootup, I get an Up Up status briefly on R3, then once R4
finally boots both sides stay Down Down. I have tried multiple cables (I
only have 2, got them from PacificCable.com) using Frame Relay, HDLC and PPP
>encapsulations. Excerpt from configs (HDLC encap):
R3 (DCE) IOS version 11.3(11a)
!
interface Serial1
ip address 192.168.254.1 255.255.255.0
clock rate 64000
dce-terminal-timing-enable
!
R4 (DTE) IOS version 11.0(22)
!
interface Serial0
ip address 192.168.254.2 255.255.255.0
!
This works fine connecting two 2500's (with 60-60 pin cable) up to clock
rate 4000000. Does it have something to do with the differing versions of
IOS? Any ideas?? Thanks!
