Are you using PIM Sparse-Dense-Mode, or just sparse-mode? In order for
auto-rp to function correctly, you must use sparse-dense mode of PIM. The
mapping agent multicasts out the announcements of who is the rp to the
224.0.1.40 group address, and unless you have dense mode running (or
statically configure the entire domain for the mapping agent as an rp for
the group 224.0.1.40) only the routers connected by broadcast to the mapping
agent will hear the announcements.
Good luck.
Andy

Subject: PIM MULTICAST QUESTION...

I have PIM set up using auto-rp. All the routers have been set up with
an interface joining a specific IGMP group (239.10.10.1). All of the
routers directly connected to the RP see the RP (sh ip pim rp) but
routers that are not locally attached do not.. Any ideas???
