multicasting - the function of a ping

If someone could please verify... When I ping a multicast address, the
router is sending by default one icmp packet for each ip address configured
on the box with that ip address as the source. Basically, the router is
generating multicast traffic of your choice that is pushed out, down a
separate tree per source ip address. Is that right?
