I don't agree - Catalyst 4000/5000/6000 all can run CatOS/XDI-based
software - but they may not run the same exact code/version with the same
capabilities. CatOS/XDI defines the interface not the platform.

Having 802.1q instead of ISL though can be a factor in choosing a switch to
practice with. The 'features' can make a difference, but both are still
CatOS/XDI interfaces. The great grandfather can even be used to get the
same 'feel' - check out the Catalyst 1200 switches (note, you don't get ISL
or 802.1q, but you can do 802.10 FDDI trunks instead)!
