Check in Rommon the following:

Do a device command first - dev

This will list all the devices that the 3640 router can see.

Next do a directory command for each device - example: dir flash:

dir slot0: (make sure a pcmcia card is in the slot0: first)

Next check the configuration register to make sure it is properly set to
0x2102 - if not sure then use the confreg 0x2102 to just reset.

The error message is usually a result of missing or corruptted IOS
images.

Worst case you might have to reload the IOS to flash by using the xmodem
command in Rommon.

Let me know if you need information on how to perform this process. If
you do use the xmodem process make sure you set the console speed to
115,200 first

with Confreg 0x3922.

Good luck,

hi guys,

My 3640 router, which was functioning like champ till
yesterday, is now, going continuously into ROMMON
mode, i dunno what the heck with it, following is the
error output from 3640 console.
===============
System Bootstrap, Version 11.1(20)AA2, EARLY
DEPLOYMENT RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
C3600 processor with 32768 Kbytes of main memory
Main memory is configured to 64 bit mode with parity
disabled

loadprog: bad file magic number: 0x0
boot: cannot load "flash:"
===============
and i've tried putting a valid 3640 image in
slot0:/slot1:, but it gives the same error message
with slot0:/slot1: mentioned.

i.e.,
================

System Bootstrap, Version 11.1(20)AA2, EARLY
DEPLOYMENT RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
C3600 processor with 32768 Kbytes of main memory
Main memory is configured to 64 bit mode with parity
disabled
