ospf/bgp: configuring loopback for rid

Group,

I would like to get a collective feedback on this: Is is wise to dedicate a
loopback just for rid assignment for protocols like ospf and bgp? Is so,
which is the best addressing scheme?

The reasoning is obvious, simplicity and uniformity. If you do a 'sh ip ospf
nei' or 'sh ip bgp nei', you know right away who your neighbors are. You
don't have to check for the rid when you configure virtual-links. And
others...

Scenarios often dictate that unless otherwise specified, use x.x.x.0/24
format. Bootcamp lab 8 for example, uses 137.20.x.0/24 by default, so using
137.20.254.24n, where n is the router number would be one approach, but what
is you had to configure another loopback with a higher ip address? Another
approach is to use 192.168.254.24n? The pro for this is that 192 is a higher
legal address that is usable for private networks. The con is that it may
not be allowed in the lab.

To minimize traffic, please reply only to me, and I will post the collective
findings after 3 days.

Cheers,
