The problem you are having is usually not due to the flash modules but
due to the boot roms in your routers. Cisco originally only supported
Intel based flash memory modules. With the onslaught of other vendors
for flash memory Cisco had to update the boot roms to support them.
Older boot roms are looking for Intel only flash modules. If you are
using a different vendor, other then Intel, you will need to update the
boot roms to 11.x code.

hi guys ;
i have a bad problem with upgading my flash memory on some of the 2500
series routers
i have searched the archive however no clear answer is there .
the problem is that when i insert 2x8MB flash to my routers , first the
router give a message that
" it cannot intialize the flash " bank 1 is unknown or something like
that
some of the flash i insert make the router completely without respose (
nothing comes out of the console )
some of them after rebooting to bootrom they appear as (device not
programmable)
does anyone had this problem before .
may be the module are faulty ???
when i make show flash chips some of the chips appear as unknown !!
any help will be appreciated .
