If you want to do everything, you will need two pix 515 with 56des and
failover support with 3 interfaces. The pix software is licensed via an
activation code so you cannot upgrade them as easy as you would a
router.

You will need the unrestricted version license in order to do the
failover.

If you just want something basic to start out with then pick a baby pix
501. Two interfaces only - inside and an outside interface with des
software support. The baby pix 501 will not support failover or a 3rd
interface but it is the same pix ios code.
