You know I am still looking for this feature in good ol CATOS, but so far, only

in ENGINEERING mode can it be done.

On a router, it is so easy to change the MAC address. I see no reason why Cisco

does not let one change the ID on a Catalyst.

This is THE ONLY way to guarantee the ultimate control of STP.

P.S. Root Guard is not a great solution since it only IGNORES BPDU's on a port
it KNOWS not to be the root (because you set it as root guard) If you want the
switches to play, Root Guard prevents this... may not be the right solution. In

either case, LAB is still Cat OS 4.5 I believe...
