Lab 18: Why redist conn when interface is redist through ospf??

I am confused with the "redistribute connected" command. In the basic BGP
section of lab 18, we are redistributing EIGRP and OSPF into BGP 100 on
router R6 in order for R5 and R3 to be able to ping interfaces on R8 and
R14. When I redistribute EIGRP and OSPF into BGP and redistribute BGP into
EIGRP and OSPF, I cannot ping the interfaces on R8 and R14 from R3 or R5,.
However, when I enter the command redistribute connected on R6 into EIGRP
and OSPF, I can ping the interfaces. What is not covered in the
redistribution of EIGRP and OSPF that makes us need to redistribute
connected? Hopefully this make sense.
