Ok, can you ping 100% from R5 and the cat3500x1. what model are the
routers(family). are the Fe configured full duplex.
I would take step by step. 1st ping R5 --- cat3500x1, then R3 ----
cat3500x1. i would check the cables.

thanks,

Subject: wierd fastethernet - ethernet problem

Hi,

Ping is never 100% successful betweek two routers
connected via a switch (3500). Both are part of vlan
300.

Here is my setup:

R5(fa1/0)-------cat3500xl------(e0/2)R3
172.16.135.5 172.16.135.3

Everything is pretty straight-forward. Suspecting cef,
I turned it off on R5. R3 is not running cef by
default.

We should be able to ping between fa and eth
interfaces right? Please help. I'm totally lost now.

TIA,
Ted.
