Differences in MTU can cause issues in a few scenarios :
The particular one that I came across is ATM -- > FR internetworking.
ATM supports the mtu of 4470, while a Serial interface with FR encap will
have the standard mtu of 1500, in this scenario, if you are to run OSPF it
will cause issues.
You can either disable mtu mismatch by using ipospf mtu-ignore or manually
change the ip mtu 1500 on the ATM end.
