Gents,
An alternative I use is to configure the console and VTY lines with 'esc 3' This sets escape-character to CTRL c. No messing about and makes breaking into pings and traceroutes easier.
Try it and let me know what you think.

there's a "f5" or "click on connection, send break" of you need to get into
ROMMON during bootup
