SNMP: Group and User configuration

I am trying to find out if the snmp "security model" and "security level"
must match in the snmp group and snmp user configuration. To explain my
confusion please consider the following snmp configuration and let me know
if the configuration will work. Note that the router will accept the
configuration.

 !
snmp-server group readonly v3 auth
snmp-server user john readonly v1
!
