Out of interest I read the CCIE Security information on www.cisco.com. There
is a statement that Core IP and IP routing protocols are tested and that
candidates are required to design a complex network from the physical layer
up. There is also a statement:
"Candidates may refer to the Routing and Switching exam blueprint for
information for more specifics on IP routing and switching test content."
If I were preparing for the Security exam I would definitely want to
understand ATM. Another interesting point is that you are already a CCIE so
you should have ATM knowledge already. If you do not use this everyday then
I understand you may lose some of the more complex ATM knowledge, however I
would expect any CCIE to retain the ability to configure all aspects of ATM
that are commonly encountered and know where to find the info for those
aspects that are less common.
Your original question asked whether you should retain the ATM kit in your
home lab. I would analyse it in the following way:
1. Can you afford to keep the ATM routers?
2. Do you remember ATM from your R&S or will you need to continue to
practice it?
3. Can you source ATM kit from on-line labs, etc
4. How confident are you with ATM
5. Did you just learn enough about ATM to pass your R&S or are you truly an
expert who would and should understand this technology?
There are several other things to look at, however it sounds as though you
are not confident with ATM and in my mind and from reading the cisco.com
site, I would recommend that you be comfortable with ATM. If you need your
kit to achieve this, then keep it. If not, sell it.
One final note: some people complain about a lack of information on the CCIE
site, and that there are too many mysteries surrounding the exam. I feel
that this is one of the values of this cert.....

Jason,
In this case I have done my homework. The r&s blueprint
lists atm as a topic. The security blueprint does not. Thus
my question.
Before you jump on me and tell me to check the web, why
don't you check and make sure the answer is there??
As for me being a "lazy-ass" I seemed to have worked hard
enough to get a number behind my name that you don't seem to
have....
