Yes. I think the outage you're seeing is perfectly normal. When we
fail between sups, we have about a 48 second delay while the backup sup
reinitializes the hardware. As some point, Cisco is supposed to
integrate the much faster fail-over (around 3 sec) into the Native IOS.

I'm using NATIVE IOS , not hydrid. Exactly, i'm using 12.1.13E5 and
trying to upgrade to 12.1.13E6 using FSU. Do you think then that this
outage time is normal?

Are you running Hybrid (CatOS on the switch and IOS on the MSFC) or Native IOS? I know for Native IOS, Cisco is s'posed to make a newer IOS that has a 2-3 second failover, but as far as I know, they haven't done that yet and you still have that 40-60 second period where the failover Sup has to re-initialize all of the cards again (and you lose all of your state information for things like NAT, IOS Server Load Balancing, etc)

Hi all:
Anyone has tried the native IOS FSU feature in a 6500?.
If I'm not wrong, when you have 2 supervisors and RPR+ configured in your Catalyst 6500 (this is my case) you can use this feature to upgrade the IOS version "without rebooting" the switch. I've tried it, by i'm seeing that i ever have a period of 48 seconds of outage (when i execute the "redundancy force-switchover" command).
I though the RPR+ mode provided a better switchover time. Anyone can tell me if this is normal or maybe i haven't configured this redundancy mode properly? I'm using 12.1.13E5 and upgrading to 12.1.13E6. I have Supervisors IA with MSFC2 and PFC.
