I am still struggling with multicast myself but I see a couple of things
that might cause trouble. I'm sure someone will correct me if I've
overstated the case.
1) Don't mix PIM modes on the routers and switches in your multicast
cloud. If you are configuring a static RP then use PIM sparse-mode
everywhere.
2) IGMP snooping is probably not needed here. CGMP is a protocol for
layer 2 switches. IGMP snooping just allows the Cat 3550 act as a proxy
for CGMP to layer 2 switches. The Cat 3550 itself does not need IGMP
snooping or CGMP. For that matter, the Cat 3550 is NOT CGMP-capable,
other than acting as a proxy for CGMP.
You should read carefully at least this part of the Cat 3550 software
config guide.

Subject: Cat 3550 - Multicast problems
Hi Everyone,
Appreciate any help from anyone on this problem.
The lab requirement is to configure vlan 50, 60 for multicast routing
with the catalyst switch.
Configs are show below:
Q1. How do you go about configuring multicast routing for the cat 3550
? Are my configs correct
Q2. Do you use igmp snooping since cgmp is not supported ? you can
configure igmp snooping only in global config mode
Q3. Why can't I ping 224.100.100.100 from the Cat 3550s if the rp
address is configured ? If you remove the rp address you
will no longer see it in 'sh ip mroute' , however you can ping
224.100.100.100 ?

R4 is the static RP - 150.50.4.4 , RPs configured on R8, R7,R2,R1 , CAT
3550-1, CAT3550-2
R2 is a member of the multicast group 224.100.100.100
