Ive been following postings about IP Expert and some of the other CCIE prep
books / courses. Since I just recently finished both Week 1 and Week 2 of
the NetMasterClass sessions, I figured I would post my opinions. If youre
looking for a positive training experience, it would behoove you to check
out NetMasterClass.
Founded by Bruce Caslow and Valeriy Pavlichenko, two CCIEs from the former
Mentor Technologies, NetMasterClass offers a training experience that cannot
be beat. Heres why:
1. Experience:
Caslow and Pavlichenko are well known in the CCIE arena, having worked in
the networking world since the early 80s. Both Caslow and Pavlichenko have
a gift for explaining complex topics so that students from a variety of
backgrounds can absorb the information.
2. The Scenarios:
CCIE lectures are worthless unless they are reinforced with well-designed
scenarios. Each NetMasterClass topic is duplicated by a lab exercise that
covers specific topics from class. In addition, both Caslow and Pavlichenko
keep tabs on any features that have been added to recent IOS versions, to
insure the scenarios cover these new features.
3. Value:
Although NetMasterClass classes arent cheap, they offer considerable value
for the money. NetMasterClass assigns each student the use of their own pod
of routers and switches. Both Caslow and Pavlichenko are on-site from 8:00
AM 7:00 PM most days, and a CCIE-certified person is on-site at all times
to answer questions or provide assistance.
4. NetMasterClass offers networking classes, and not bootcamps:
Many CCIE programs are designed to teach students to pass the CCIE lab exam.
NetMasterClass is different. Instead of teaching students how to pass an
exam (which is almost impossible with the CCIE exam), NetMasterClass
instructors force students to familiarize themselves with the technologies
that comprise the CCIE exam. This gives students the necessary flexibility
to reason out problems that theyve never seen before. NetMasterClass
instructors wont let students take the easy way out in their quest for a
passing grade on the exam. This alone is worth the price of admission.
5. Finally, there is one additional reason why Id choose NetMasterClass
over any other program: Everyone person at NetMasterClass gives a damn
about each and every student that passes through the door. They state right
up front that their measure of success is based on how many people pass the
CCIE exam after taking the class.
