RE: Route Selection with EIGRP ----- multiple summary addresses

Yes, i am summarizing the networks into 10.0.0.0/12 out two serial
interfaces which are on the same router but different AS. Note Ethernet
interface is in AS20 (same as serial 1). Serial 3 is in AS3

The issuation is little bit more complicated. We are doing mutual
redistribution between the two AS.

Therefore any routes learned from AS 20 will be redistributed into AS 3 and
verse versa.
Assume that the summarize route on serial 3 (AS3) is intalled in the router
routing table (10.0.0.0/12 --> null). Now this route will be
redistributed to AS20 and thus becoming a external route (AD=170) in AS 20
domain. This is exactly what's happening to my router.

I do'nt want this to happen. I want the summary route of serial 1 to be
installed in the routing table.

So again i want to find out whats the criteria the routers uses to select
which one of these routes it places into its routing table.

Thanks
Hemant

Hemant,

It would be helpful if you could provide more information.

You are summarizing the networks into 10.0.0.0/12 out two interfaces on
the same router into two different AS's, correct? A summary address is
advertised as internal to the AS (D rather than D EX in the route
table).

If you are curious as to which route would be installed on the local
router, it doesn't matter. It will simply be a route to Null0 for the
summary address.

As for what the routers in each AS will learn, it will be the summary
local to their AS (i.e. the summary for 10.0.0.0/12 into AS 3 will be
used rather than the redistributed summary from AS 20 into AS 3).
Assuming that you're redistributing routes between the AS's.

I remember you posting a simple ascii diagram, but it was hard to
understand what you're trying to accomplish and what you're actually
doing.

If you have two summaries coming from different routers into the same
AS, it will pick the summary with the best metric.

Subject: Route Selection with EIGRP ----- multiple summary addresses
involved

Hi All,

I have router connected to 2 AS (AS3 and AS20). Serial 3 is connected
to
AS3 and serial 1 is connected AS20.
I have subnets 10.0.0.0/12 connected to the ethernet interface of the
same
router. (eg 10.5.10.x,10.15.1.x etc).
Now i want to propagate only summary route of 10.0.0.0/12 via serial 3
and
Serial 1. I have placed the " ip eigrp summary address" command on
each
of the serial links. Note both of them on different AS.

I know after implmenting this command, router will automatically add a
route of 10.0.0.0/12 and point it to null interface.

Since i have 2 of these statements (one on each serial interface),
there
will be two of above routes....which of these routes will be installed
in
the routers routing table. Is it the one from serial 1 or serial 3.
What
is the discision criteria for the selection.

Please help, this is causing a big problem in my network.

thanks
Hemant
