Hi Jonathan,
Is the row "callback" mentioning the R5 callback call (or the R2 initial
call)? to me it seems "ppp authentication callback" in R2 means R2 not
challenge callback call.
Sorry that I haven't got an ISDN, do you know who will challenge who if the
"ppp authentication callback" config in R5 and still R2 initiate call, R5
is the callback server.
Thx,
BBD

It is important to note that CHAP will react differently, depending on
which end initiates the call.
Here's a helpful chart.
The first column lists the "ppp authentication chap" options for R2. It
makes no sense to configure these options on both sides. If you need to
do it in the other direction just reverse R2 and R5 configurations.
Columns 2 and 3 list who challenges who.
R2 R2 R5
ppp auth initiates initiates
option call call
-------- -------- ---------
none 2-way 2-way
callout 2-way R5
callin R5 2-way
callback R5 R5
The entry "R5" means that only R5 will challenge R2. The entry "2-way"
means that each side will challenge the other.

Jonathan

Subject: CHAP callin
If the requirement said only R5 will challenge R2, should I configure
ppp
authentication chap callin on R5 or R2 ? I was confused by the callin
keyword.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.
