Yes. If we are talking about the CCIE Lab exam, to get your exam points
I would recommend using the same type of authentication on the virtual
link that is used for area 0 authentication. Putting it another way, if
the exam calls for MD5 authentication on area 0, then configure MD5
authentication on all virtual links.
However, if you are just asking what will work, then it does not matter.
As of IOS 12.0 you can change the type of authentication on any link and
in any area on a per-link basis. The only requirement is that the
authentication type and password (if any, since Null authentication is
one of the three possible types) must be the same on both ends of the
link.
