Yasser,
Your point is well taken so I'll share with you the thinking behind my "keep
it brief" excortation.
1) I don't want the Lab Tips file to grow into another Doyle "Routing
TCP/IP" rewrite.
2) I think the Lab Tip provider has a responsibility to make sure the tip
is factually correct and the Lab Tip user has a responsibility to understand
how to apply and use the lab tip. If one doesn't understand the lab tip and
want's to discuss it in more detail, they are free to post comments and
questions about it right here on GS. And, they can subsequently decide to
add or not add the tip their own, personal lab tips file based on their own
individual preferences. As I said, what might be a good tip for one person
might for another be useless.
3) Taken as a whole, I visualize this complilation of lab tips to be a
relatively short, highly useful document. If the lab tips files ends up
being more than several pages, it becomes too long to be very useful the day
before the lab and it will also be too long to be read in 15 minutes and
therefore too long to read everyday or every other day. Therefore, after a
certain length, it becomes less useful rather than more useful.
In essense, to make this lab tip concept as useful as possible, I think if
50 or 100 people submit 1 or 2 or 3 of their most valuable tips, and from
that each person then takes then takes the top 50, 60 or 80 tips that are
most useful to themselves personally and makes that their personal lab tips
file, we will each improve our chances of passing on our next attempt.
Having said all that, where's your tip to be added to this Lab tips file?
PM
