RE: Slash 31s

Hi all

Do routing protocols have any problems with such masks?
I have tested this with ospf and it works ok (routing table has a /31
subnet) on a router that does not support this feature.

What about redistributing between protocols, BGP? Any experiences,
tricks?

Thanks,
Marko

That's kind of a trick question...

I would suppose it would depend on the rest of your network and
scenario. And your personal opinion! If your network supports it, go
for it.

What do you get out of having a broadcast ability where there's only one
possible other side to broadcast to?!?!

Would I go do it all throughout my network? Sure, if I had the time and
felt like doing it. What would I benefit? I'd get 50% more IP
addresses to use on P2P links... What would I lose? My mind? From
going around and reconfiguring everything? :) Perhaps some issues with
auto-config (haven't tried to think much about this beyond this e-mail
though!)

Like most things though, it comes down to time and energy... Do you
have it? Can you afford it?

Would I do it on my CCIE lab? Not unless I'm asked to. Don't get
creative on the CCIE lab. Creativity doesn't get you points, but may
cause you to waste valuable time if something doesn't work right.

Is there a situation when a /31 is not desirable for p2p?

As long as you are using an IOS that supports it, things work
wonderfully!
