I live in Whittier, just a couple hours north of you. If you have just
passed your written, you will probably not pass on your first attempt in
October, let alone September, and certainly not with other neophytes.
Meetings with other candidates will be motivate you more than anything. You
can go over configs and clear up some confusion. Doing the same exercise at
the same time, however, will slow you both down. One of you is going to pick
up things quicker than the other, and it will just turn into a tutorial.
I don't mind doing that myself, since I've taken the test a few times and
know a lot more than if I had passed on the first try.
The road to CCIE is very lonely. Ask anyone here.
