Marc,
The 3550 doesn't run MLS, it runs CEF. CEF cannot be disabled
on the 3550 as it runs in hardware. Now if you are referring to just
how routing works on the 3550, there are two variations. Layer 3 routed
interfaces, and Switched Virtual-Interfaces (SVIs). There
configurations are as follows:
Layer 3 routed:
Interface FastEthernet0/1
No switchport
Ip address 1.2.3.4 255.0.0.0
SVI:
Interface Vlan1
Ip address 1.2.3.4 255.0.0.0
Just make sure that "ip routing" is enabled if you want to route
and that the VLAN for the SVI actually exists in the VLAN database.
