Chuck,

I have been paying more attention to it as well recently, although it
complements NANOG. One thing I have noticed is that I find it useful
to read it differently than I do in Groupstudy.

When I read Groupstudy, I have the posts sorted by date. There's
enough subject line drift, and individual exchanges that do not turn
into meaningful threads, that viewing by subject doesn't add value.
When reading NSP, however, I do have the messages sorted by subject,
and can often then print a group of focused posts on the same topic,
producing a mini-tutorial.

I think there is a message here. There's enough serious discussion
aspects of an issue, including background, that NSP tells a story --
much like one of the IETF working groups. Groupstudy, however, tends
to be focused on very specific problems, commands, etc., from which
it is much more difficult to get a real thread going. I know I learn
the most from running discussions, even if they are on a subject in
which I am expert -- because thinking about the context, and
consciously trying to be educational in a post, works better in a
continued thread.

Groupstudy's tendency to posts of "what is the answer to this
question" runs counter to a good learning process. I'd hope to see
more continued threads on the CCIE list, at least -- maybe that
should be a goal for some of the readers.

Mind you, when it comes to whether the list is boring, my mind tends
to flash to the way we speak of "interesting packets" -- which would
imply there are also dull, boring packets.
