Personally, I prefer to use a valid Mac address from one of the router interfaces. But most labs give a specific format, i.e. use 000X.000X.0000Y where X is your rack number and Y is your router number, or something along those lines.

Subject:	IS-IS NET
Hi all,
I have a following setup of
(eth0) --- R1 (eth1) ------ (eth1) R2 (eth0)
              ! !
             (se0) (se0)
              ! !
              R3 R4
What would be my NET for R1 and R2 if all the routers are in Area 1.
Would it be the highest MAC address? Or, I can choose any random address
like
R1#
router isis
net 49.01.0000.0001.ccdd.00
Thanks,
Naveen
