Well here it is the first week of Networkers in Las Vegas and I have elected
to take my R&S lab that Monday. So as you can imagine there was only a few
others there in San Jose and the proctors were supplied by the Brussels lab.
This had no effect on the outcome of my lab I just thought it interesting.
With all due respect for the NDA I can relate these facts in regards to the
actual lab experience.
1.) The material is pretty straight forward and on your second read through
the lab booklet you will "spot the issues" that maybe you may overlook on the
initial read. The lab is very achievable, just pay attention to the details.
2.) Most of the TOP training vendors seem to be teaching the right materials.
Repeatedly working through their labs is definitely good preparation. Just
make sure your technical theory back round is strong.
3.) As I have heard everyone here say " Know your base technologies inside and
out". These are easy points and your larger point sections will need you to
have the underlying technologies configured properly and of course with haste.
(I had an inverted FR map statement that later on cost me time to debug).
4.) And importantly the breakdown for each section relies on meeting ALL
subsets to be correct based on what the lab criteria is seeking. I had a
section I knew worked but still received no points. This is most likely
attributed to misinterpreting one of the subsets for that section.
5.) Manage your time and make sure to have at least an hour on the backend to
assure everything you believe works actually does.
I feel pretty good going back in to a follow attempt as when I totaled my
score and calculated the approximate percentage total I was no too far off. I
expected to be a bit shorter.
I have already scheduled my second attempt and am looking forward. Overall it
is a great experience pass or fail. So if you feel pressured out of the gate
on your first attempt, do not. The proctors are very friendly and quite
helpful and the experience itself is great.
