backup physical interface using keepalives

Hi all,

In one of the IE workbook Q&A based web forums, i saw that Physical
Interface can be used for
"backup interface", if used "frame-relay class checkkeepalives" on interface.

Any experiences on this ?

I know, backup interface command is cannot determine Interface down,
because multiple other VCs might be up.

But what happens if we use "map-class checkkeepalives" using
"frame-relay end-to-end keepalives" & apply that class to physical
interface......Is it possible to bringdown the interface & then
effectively bringup backup interface ?
