There are 10 CCIE lab sites worldwide. Let's say that each site
has about 8 R&S racks give or take. Each of these racks has 6 routers
and 2 3550 Catalysts that you are responsible for configuring. Assuming
that one is already a 3725, this means that there would be about 320
routers that need swapping out. At a list price of over $7000 USD, this
would mean that the CCIE program would be asking for a $2,240,000
requisition :) Instead of an immediate changing out the 2600s and 3600s
will most likely be migrated away from over the next few years. This is
the reason for the 12.3 announcement for the 2600s and 3600s, as they're
here to stay for at least the time being.

Also keep in mind that the 3600s can run 12.4 mainline too, so
the feature difference between it and the 3800 ISR is more of a hardware
specific feature matter (i.e. integrated wireless, integrated
callmanager, etc). The voice related features will definitely not be
within the scope of the R&S exam since there is now a voice track.
Whether hardware specific features like the wireless or etherswitch
modules will be integrated is yet to be seen (however unlikely).
