With the virtual link you extend the area 0 to the virtual link ABR as
you call it. So for the not directly connected area that router is the
connection to the backbone, not the one you configured the summarization
on. Even with the second area 0 range command the more specific routes
remain in the routing table of the virtual link ABR. Because that is now
a backbone router and the routes you want to summarize are intra area
routes so area range has no effect. The area 0 range on the ABR only
summarizes to the directly connected areas, but not to the VL connected
ones. For the VL connected areas you have to summarize at the other end
of the VL.
