Link local addresses define those which are used on the local media
(e.g. link).  The use of link-local addresses and ICMPv6 replaces the
need for ARP as with IPv4.
Site-local addresses are those which are used within a site
(organizationally scoped) and not routable outside of the organization
or "site" (aka the internet/mbone).  I think of these like RFC 1918
addresses in IPv4.
