Hi Brent,
As an instructor, I find that when people are learning a new technology it is
best to first present the simplest working scenario, and then build on that.
Accoring to the doc below, the originator-id is necessary under two
circumstances:
1.  You have a logical RP and MSDP Mesh-groups
2.  The router is a dense-mode/sparse-mode border router...

Certainly, if you run into one of those scenarios on the lab, you will want to
use originator-id.
