Hello Anis,
The Cataylst 3524 is a good switch, although not suitable for CCIE
preparation. The CCIE Lab exam tests your knowledge on configuration of
Catalyst 3550 and soon Cataltyst 3560. The before mentioned switches are
commonly referred to as "swouters", because of their ability to act as a
full blown router. The Catalyst 3500XL series does not have similar
functionalities
If you are considering buying Catalyst 3524 because of budget
restraints, you can always opt for renting equipment racks that'll
feature the Catalyst 3550 on line.
