RE: Articulating the need for a router

Can I ask this, what is the point that you want to get across as to the need
of another router. Why add another point of failure to the network, looks to
be more complex than it needs to be for 10-20 users.

If you want to add a L3 device then change the switch to a L3 switch rather
than a router. It's not the best design, but with a L3 switch you can VLAN
it out and have a DMZ now as well. For a DMZ I would suggest a separate
physical switch for though.

Subject: Articulating the need for a router

Hi Group,

One of my remote site has the following design:

          Serial T1 Ethernet Ethernet
ISP -------------------- Router ----------------- FW ------------------
Switch ----------- Internal Devices

I want to introduce another router in between the FW and the Switch but
meeting resistance from the FW group. It is the control thing.

           Serial T1 Ethernet Ethernet
ISP -------------------- Router ----------------- FW ------------------
Router -------------Switch ----------- Internal Devices

Besides good network design and Cisco's IOS tools at my disposal for
troubleshooting, how do I sell this design?

I'm having problem articulating my idea for a remote site with only 10 to 20
end users.
