ip unnumbered means IP packet header's source/destination

I think I understand this now.

I remember there is a RFC for a router. I think 2 interfaces cannot belong to 1 subnet, at least from someone outside the router's perspective.

Inside the router, IOS can take care of 2 interfaces belong to 1 subnet.

If the tunnel interface with unnumbered configuration sends packets with regular src/dest fields, it will violate the router RFC, I am guessing.
