Right,

I read the ATE forums as well.

Also read the same forums by Ben Ng (IE Voice Content Manager) when he
thought similarly 2 years ago. ;-)

Budgets aren't always as easy as they seem they might be :-).

I agree with you - at least 12-18 months maybe 24.

Sure, VPN3k won't give up so easily :) However, here's a quotation from
Cisco NetPro forum:

Hi Milan,

Yes, since VPN3000 concetrator is announced EOS, it is very likely to be
removed from the CCIE lab exam.

We are presently working on this and will make an announcement when a
decision has been made. Meanwhile, it will continue to appear in the exam.

Regards,
Yusuf

Personally I think VPN3k would hold it's position for at least a year, or
maybe even two :)

I would doubt that the 3000 concentrator comes off the lab anytime soon. It is a solid VPN box and very heavily deployed throughout the world.

3550 has been EOL for quite some time now too - but it hasn't come off of the Voice or Security labs yet either ...

IMHO,

Hi,

Now we have dynamips and pixemu around :) This way one may just use couple of PCs to simulate 80% of lab equipment. In the past, it was pefrectly possible to install IDS 4.x code on the standalone PC as well. Alas, I never heard if this is really possible with newer 5.x. As for ACS it was possible to obtain a trial license back in days, and Cisco Trust Agent is claimed to be "free" software (although i don't see an easy free way to download it).

For VPN3000 concentrator, it's probably will be taken off the lab shortly, due to it's EOL status.

HTH
