Go read the SRND on L3 campus design. It discusses polarization that can
happen on a network where you have multiple hops.
The 6500 can do full as well, which uses L4 port numbers.
On a layer 2 switch the dst-mac will always be the default gateway, unless
you have multiple l2 hops. Still the dst-mac will be 80% the default
gateway. Being able to load balance based on src-dst-ip will certainly break
things up a lot more. If you search on CCO you will find the command
necessary to show your hashing. In some cases a single vlan over 2 links
will all utilize a single link in some cases. Multicast always uses one
link, as well.
