I had a proctor tell me to be careful with aliases if they might interfere
with commands their scripts run--i.e. make sure your alias doesn't hide a
command they would run.

Sure, you can use alias comands if you want to. I've used them before but
I'm not so sure that they really saved me much time but no problem using
them...unless for some reason your lab says not to. ;-)
