OT: RE: So which is there more of a market demand for?

The market is always in demand for skilled,
innovative, and motivated professionals whether or not
they have a certification.

One friend of mine (non-certified) said something
interesting this week:

"The best jobs are recommended by word of mouth... and
based on reputation, and then if we cannot find
someone we know, then we go recruiting and the
certifications may help".

Then he mentioned something else that was quite
interstesing:

If I am non-certified and I am able to answer or
perform mostly any task or project, am I more or less
valuable than a person that has a certification?

Now consider the source:

The guy had an interesting project and used at at
least the knowledge required from 3 CCIE tracks so far
plus, design, network management, and project
management within the framework of ITIL to be able to
complete a task that I for one am sure at least 3
particular items of interest have not been seen on
anyone's workbook yet and may not. One with OSPF, One
with VPNs, and another with some creative usage of
VRFs to meet the stated objectives. All in all, quite
interesting. I was sure we needed more gear and I
think he was too but had already committed.

I kept thinking the guy ought to be writing workbook
tasks, kinda reminded me of Val Pavlichenko but with a
stronger personality.
