I was exactly in the same situation as you are now (long time ago)
You can not install Unity without Exchange server CRAP! I hate it...
During Unity installation there is an option - without exchange server but
that doesn't work if you finish the intsallation.
The bottom line is, you've to marry Unity with Exchange server!
They are husband&wife - goes together...
