Here is what I have in production on core-distrib sw 6509 <-> access sw
3560E. VPT server is cat6k, for RSPAN vlan you have to declare this in
vlan configuration.

cat6k(config)#vlan 44
cat6k(config-vlan)#remote-span

!!! core sw config

cat6k#sh run | in monitor
monitor session 2 source interface Gi9/23
monitor session 2 destination remote vlan 44
cat6k#sh vlan remote-span

Remote SPAN VLANs
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
44

!!!!! access sw config

cat3k-ce-3#sh run | in monitor
monitor session 2 destination interface Gi0/1 ingress untagged vlan 3
monitor session 2 source remote vlan 44
cat3k-ce-3#sh vlan remote-span

Remote SPAN VLANs
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
44
