Oh, yeah, don't ever do it cisco's way with the stupid tool that takes
hours.... use the config translator program I mentioned to change the cfg...
(takes about 10 minutes)
Then this CCR about 30 minutes. I even bring native ios formatted ATA cards
with the ios images on them with me to save time. Boot once to native from
cat6k rommon, copy images from ata to internal flash (or not if it's the
ancient sup2/msfc2 with tiny bootflash) and load the .cfg from the card.
Here is a link to a change control form... for the steps I use...

We did this last year on an MSFC2/SUP2. We didn't do it in place... we
upgraded in the lab and then swapped in the upgraded modules. It's a
pretty involved process and the "conversion tool" is almost more trouble
than it's worth. The upgrade process can take hours, and will probably
take you two tries the first time. I highly recommend doing it offline.
Also: you need to be very conscious of the memory and flash in your 6509.
We had to upgrade both to hold all the required images. I think we also
had to patch the boot loader.
Here's a doc with info:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps708/prod_white_
paper09186a00800c8441.html
and at the bottom of that doc is the conversion instructions, which you
need partner access to view. Our Cisco partner sent us the PDF:

note09186a008015bfa6.shtml.
Good luck!
