Sorry, but this just begs for it.
> Engilish is the language of Diplomacy, use it
Technically speaking, this language is still called French, last time I
checked.
> English is the language of the United States, use it if you want to stay in
> the United States.
...
> It's bad enough that we have to put up with the "Press 2 para Espanol" crap,
> now we have to put up with foreign speakers in this group.
Some, or even most of us are NOT from the United States nor plan to live
there, so these comments are pointless.
In fact, this whole discussion is pointless. Victor posted >one< message in
Spanish, which in my opinion is just fine. We all know what that message
said - he passed the exam, thanked God, his family, everyone here who
helped, the usual "I passed" stuff. Hardly anything "to die for" if you
didn't understand every word. I don't speak Spanish (apart from being able
to order food and drink), yet I knew exactly what message was about and what
he talked about. So do you.
Noone here wishes to make this list non-English for essential content, but
don't you ever forget that this list is very much international and by that
it means that people here express their everyday feelings in languages other
than English. Even though I'm not the one who would normally do it, I
welcome doing that on the list. Judging by the number of positive responses
to his e-mail, quite a lot of people understood what he wrote, or decided to
share in his happiness. If you can't deal with it, unsubscribe and find some
WASP list and enjoy it.
One more thing before I go back to work.
