RE: UDLD PORT

Hi,

Yes, I think it does especially because only enabling "udld port" in a
twisted pair Ethernet would not accomplish much thing (to not say anything)
because you would be enabling udld in normal mode (usually used with
fiber-optic cable)
Since you are using RJ-45 I would go for aggressive mode, what are the main
difference between the two?

First the concept of UDLD (I got this text from doc cd)

UDLD is a Layer 2 protocol that enables devices connected through
fiber-optic or twisted-pair Ethernet cables to monitor the physical
configuration of the cables and detect when a unidirectional link exists.
All connected devices must support UDLD for the protocol to successfully
identify and disable unidirectional links.

Normal mode:
In normal mode, UDLD can detect unidirectional links due to misconnected
interfaces on fiber-optic connections

Aggressive mode:
In aggressive mode, UDLD can also detect unidirectional links due to one-way
traffic on fiber-optic and twisted-pair links and to misconnected interfaces
on fiber-optic links.

I got all this texts from Doc CD (he is definitely your friend :-P)

GS Experts,

Do you think it make any difference in terms of functionality if *"udld port
aggressive"* is used instead of only *"udld port"*
**
**
*Lets assume that port is a not a fiber optics ethernet port but its a
simple RJ45 copper ethernet port.*

In my opinion, it doesn't make any difference.

Expert comments please

thanks
