The straight Answer to number 1. is NO
I've had terrible experience at work where 2 sources stream to same
address ... hence, causing pixelation on end devices...ie. receiving
multiple copies of same stream. Say, I'm streaming CNN from 2 sources
and want to watch it on an end device, because IGMPv2 isn't picky on
which source to receive from, it accepts all streams from all sources
destined for that group ... ie. (*,G) with great delight.
Check out RFC3376 http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc3376.html for the GREAT
IGMPv3, which adds support for "source filtering", that is, the ability
for a system to report interest in receiving packets *only* from
specific source addresses
For number 2. That's wierd!~:~ I've had this experience myself with some
Arabic Channels, using a particular address, wouldn't work, but using
another it does.... still trying to get my head round why, but my best
guess is that maybe some upstream multicast router is having some MRoute
Table Corruption!
Many Thanks

Subject: stupid quesiton - multicast
Scenario:
PC1----------R1----s0---WAN-L2------s1------R2----------PC2
PC2 is running Multicast application on 239.1.1.1 port 16400
What will happen if I assign 239.1.1.1 port 16400 mcast address on PC1
application as well?
Assuming that M.cast routing is enabled on both routers and on each
interfaces.
1. Do we have IP address conflict in Mcast address as well?
2. When I have 2 application in the PC2 - application1 & application2
application1: 239.1.1.1 port 16400
application2: 239.1.1.2 port 16400
The first application works but, the second one doesn't.
But If I change it to
application1: 239.1.1.1 port 16400
application2: 239.1.1.9 port 16400
Both applications works!
I couldn't figure out why it won't work like class a/b/c IP address. I
what
is the rule in Mcast addressing?
