about ospf mtu-ignore

hi, guys,

I have one Router R1 and a switch S1, they connected with fast ethernet
interfaces, R1 interface Mtu is 1500, S1 system MTU is 1504, they are
running OSPF in between, to let them work, I configued: "ip ospf mtu-ignore"
on R1 fa0/0, and ospf works perfectly, my question is, why we don't have to
configure the same command on S1?
