It doesn't take a genius to pass the exams in the first place. Heck,
even I managed to do it few times! ;-)
Someone smart enough to do intelligent count between answers, would be
more than smart to learn the subject. Someone stupid enough not to be
able to learn the matter, won't be smart enough for smart random
count.
Besides, I don't think it's just the count that matters. It's the
whole exam behaviour, mouse movements, "test clicks", etc. Most people
that spend minute or two on some question will change their mind
between "slightly right" and "right" choice. Even click on some of
them. People who know the answer and count, will click on the right
answer, wait and move on... or wait and click. Repeat that on several
"trick" questions and you have a trigger. I wouldn't underestimate
forensics that can be collected...
