Hi Raul,

Saying "PIMv2 is BSR" is perhaps a little too simplistic, "BSR is part
of the PIM(v2) Sparse Mode standard" may be more accurate.

PIM version 2 relates to the format and useage of the PIM packets, and
was originally defined as part of RFC2362 (PIM-SM), later also being
used/extended in RFC3973 for PIM-DM. Both of these were classed as
experimental RFCs and have since been deprecated. The same pim version
number was used by both SM & DM, but BSR is obviously not relevant to
dense mode at all, so was only mentioned in 2362.

The first real standard was RFC 4601 (PIM-SM) and BSR has since been
updated by RFC 5059 "BSR Mechanism for PIM". Because DM and PIMv1 are
dead, PIMv2 is often used to mean the current PIM-SM standard (as in
your reply); this defines BSR and also gives the options of statically
defining and embedding RP info. It does NOT define AutoRP, so may rule
out use of AutoRP depending on the question.

Paul.
